Leishmaniasis Seresto Study

Medium and Large Dogs (>8Kg)

Composition per necklace:
1 Seresto Collar (70 cm) for dogs > 8 kg contains: 4.50 g of imidacloprid and 2.03 g of flumethrin.

Indications

For the prevention and treatment of flea infestation (Ctenocephalides felis, C. canis) for 7 – 8 months . Protects the animal's immediate environment by inhibiting the development of flea larvae for 8 months.

Seresto can be used as part of a flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) treatment strategy.

The veterinary medicinal product is effective against tick infestations for 8 months due to its repellent (anti-feeding) effect (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus) and its acaricidal effect (death of the parasite) (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor reticulatus). It is effective against larvae, nymphs and adult ticks.

Ticks present on the dog before treatment may not die in the first 48 hours after application of the collar, so they may remain attached and visible. Therefore, it is recommended to remove any existing ticks from the dog prior to applying the collar. Prevention of new tick infestations begins during the first two days after application of the collar.

The collar indirectly protects against the transmission of the pathogens Babesia canis vogeli and Ehrlichia canis by the Rhiphicephalus sanguineus tick and consequently, the risk of canine babesiosis and canine ehrlichiosis is reduced for 7 months.

Reduction of the risk of Leishmania infantum infection through sandfly transmission up to 8 months.

For the treatment of infestation by biting/chewing lice (Trichodectes canis).

Dosage and method of administration

Cutaneous use. One collar per animal to apply around the neck.
Dogs weighing more than 8 kg must wear a 70 cm long collar.
Small dogs up to 8 kg should use a dog collar < 8 kg with a length of 38 cm.

Remove the collar from the protective bag just before use. Unroll the collar and make sure that there are no traces of the plastic strips on the inside of the collar. Fit the collar loosely around the animal's neck (it is recommended to leave a space of two fingers between the collar and the neck). Pass the end of the collar through the buckles. Cut the excess collar leaving 2 cm behind the buckle.
